From all
of us and ours to all of you and yours ;-)
December 23, 2002:
Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher.
He never owned a home. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself...
While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against him. His friends ran away. One of them denied Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves. While He was dying His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth - His coat. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.
Nineteen long centuries have come and gone, and today He is a centerpiece of the human race, leader of the column of progress.
I am far within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched, all the navies that were ever built; all the parliaments that ever sat and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that one solitary life.

For most of
us, the striper season is now behind us. We now look forward to the Christmas
season as a time for family and friends. In keeping with the theme of
the well-known essay you have just read, I find it amazing that over two
thousand years have passed since the birth of Christ yet it remains the
most significant event that marks our calendar year. Please allow me to
encourage us all to take some time during the hurried pace of the holidays
to pause and contemplate the reason for the season.
On the day of Jesus' birth the angel of the Lord appeared to shepherds at the nearby fields of Bethlehem. The angel told them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. When the angel said, "all the people" he included you and I. Jesus said, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." May those who have received, by faith, the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, give grateful thanks and humble worship during this Christmas season. For those who have never received Jesus as Savior and Lord please consider the significance of the promise of Christ, for it is "good news of great joy".
Merry Christmas and God bless,
Hugh Rowan, aka "Plug"
Thanks Hugh, I couldn't have said it better myself! ;-)
Merry Christmas everyone, and happy holidays.
