I agree, I like most of it. Grouse is some of the best! Woodcock on the other hand is way to gamey for me.

Just soak some corn in whiskey bait an area with regular corn & slowing add the spike ones. The birds will get a little drunk, grab one & break its neck. My Uncles in Ireland do this for geese.

Sorry Jimby, if you're familiar with the later verses, I couldn't resist

Best white meat I've ever had besides the wife, was from a wild turkey.

reminds me of a show I saw on bears once. there was a train wreck in Alaska, train was carrying corn. the corn was left where it spilled and started to ferment. bears came out of their dens in spring and headed right to the fermented corn. they were so drunk they couldn't stand.

I've eaten dove and duck.

Liked dove better than duck but still prefer turkey or chicken.

When I left a friends home, I came around a bend in his long private road.
10-12 hen turkeys were crossing it.
They weren't that big.
Haven't seen turkeys on my property.

Pete -

Sounds a terrible waste... just for a bird.

Heard of Thanksgiving? I could buy an organic, antibiotic free, free range, heritage bird for $5/lb. Burning gas, preordering, etc. Or I could get the one or three walking by my front door. I have 4 doe permits to fill after that.
