There is a reason they were huge favorties for the WS even befoe the season started. If the Yanks didnt get to the WS it would be considered a TOTAL FAILURE considering the moves they made
At least they're getting quality for their money--our front office throws wads of cash at bums like Beltran and Delgado

Great value for the money they threw at Pedro, too.

You're just pissed because they're spending smart and we're spending stoopid

More than half the starting lineup is often homegrown talent.
Not to mention Hughes and Jobba who are works in progress that could turn out very well when they get some seasoning under their belts.
How is that a fail? the Yanks did not produce a homegrown top notch starter....u want Pettit take him he is almost 40...hardly top notch anymore, he was but he is on the way out.....and Ill leave out the 10 mil 1 year deal the jackass turned down. And the Yanks have not produced a impactful 1st basemen/infielder by any means....Cano Ill give you, and he looks terrific right now Joba/ Hughes have been trash basically with the exeption of an inning here and there, Chin Ming wong whatever his name is was another one who isnt doing shite, got hurt but never came back.....and your bullpen guys got some fat signing bonus money also bro.....bottom line they bought the talent..there is no argument to be had. Thats one way to get into the postseason but after dropping a few bucks shy of a half a BILLION dollars over the weekend you should expect some feedback from that and honors of the biggest choke artists in the game if they dont take the series, regardless of the NL opponent.

Hopefully you fellas will have something in common with the Mets in a couple days. Phils get the bats going again and this effer is going 7.....than back down Broad St.

You are so wrong!

How the hell does a team compete on a level playing field when one team has $100 to $200 million dollars television/radio deal and another team has a $6milion dollar radio/tv deal?

One team sells out their ball park each and every game and one team has trouble getting 10,000 home town fans to show up.

Personally, I do not care, it is the owner's money and if they choose to spend it great and if they choose to not spend it then so be it, but it is fact that if team RS spends 80% of their income on the team and team KCR spends 80% of their income on the team, team RS has a huge money advantage over team KCR.

As to spending money, the Red Sox are the only team to spend over a $100 million dollars on their payroll and win a world series, it looks like the Yankees may be the first team to spend over $200 million and win a world series ..... but there is always a chance that the Phillies can keep the planet in alignment.

Actually the big market teams and that includes the Yankee, Mets, Red Sox etc have over the lesser teams is the draft too! Teams are afraid to selct the very best players in the draft for fear they can not sign them and they will in essence waste the draft pick. I can not remmebr the names but i remeber te Red Sox picked up someone that should have been drafted by Kansas city, but KC could not meet the guys demands so they passed on him and the Red Sox got him. the money is an advantage plan and simple and think the teams with the money do not have an advantage is BS.

As opposed to the three top notch homegrown Philly starters, Lee, Martinez and Blanton?

Im not the person defending the yanks moves here. There is a pretty major difference in the money however, and these guys with the exeception of Lee were not top dollar free agents, let alone aquired overnight. Apples vs oranges. You can't dispute the fact that the Yankees had failed to produce talent, missed a few post seasons and BOUGHT the missing pieces to the puzzle.....correct me if Im wrong. Again I have no issues with the NY style of ownership...its really nothing new to them, but passion trumps payroll......

Well they missed one - last year - I do not think they missed any other post seasons in the last decade. They lost in the first round a few years, but they made the playoffs.

Size payroll and the ability to spend more than other teams help, but it is not the whole answer. Let's just hope that Philly figures out a way to win 2 more games this season.

Salaries is a tough thing to talk about here when it comes to baseball.

When it comes to salaries, think about as the job market. Where would you work in order to make the most money you could? My answer would be NY. No doubt the job market aint bad in Boston but if I took my job and transferred to NY, I would make about almost 10 - 15 dollars more an hour as to the Millions of dollars baseball players can get from going from a low salary team to the highest one.

The next thing is fans base, you need to have attendance in your stadium that is consistent enough to produce more revenue, to get better players. Baseball/Football is one of the top sports in the North East, the fans are breeded since young from their parents or friends which influences them to become passionate about their team as they get older, hence all the NY, Philly, Boston fans on SOL.

As far as winning championships, this is where NY benefits in sports, especially baseball. A owner with money up the wazu and supporting fans, can get your team any player they want but it wont give you a championship. You still have to go out with those great players, play 162 game season, and then playoffs. The money will sure get you the talent but will the talent pay off? Thats why these rich owners gamble big time and win more then the rest of them.

Guys guys guys, let's not distract ourselves with nonsensical, jealousy based arguments.
FACT: 4, count them, 4 free agent signings on the Yanks.
We didnt buy squat. This is a home grown team. Get over it.

The Yankees could not beat ANY team in baseball if teams played on a dollar to dollar basis and would be a 4th team if baseball had a 150 million dollar payroll cap(do the math).

True facts........

you still miss the point that they have a huge advantage in being able to pay huge money to keep these guys. I dont get why you dont understand that.

The only thing that needs to be gotten over is your self-delusion. From a Yankees's blog:

1BMark TeixeiraSigned as a Free Agent from Angels2009
2BRobinson CanoAmateur Free Agent2001
SSDerek Jeter1st Round Draft Pick1992
3BAlex RodriguezTraded by Rangers2004
RFNick SwisherTraded by White Sox2009
CFMelky CabreraAmateur Free Agent2001
LFJohnny DamonSigned as a Free Agent from Red Sox2005
CJorge Posada24th Round Draft Pick1990
DHHideki MatsuiSigned as Free Agent from Japan2003
SPCC SabathiaSigned as Free Agent from Brewers2009
SPA.J. BurnettSigned as Free Agent from Blue Jays2009
SPAndy Pettitte22nd Round Draft Pick*1990
SUPhil Hughes1st Round Draft Pick2004
CLMariano RiveraAmateur Free Agent1990

By that reckoning, there are 8 free agents among the Yankees top 14 players. (OK, OK , not fair numbers, but it's really 5 free agents, not 4)

However, your raising the issue of free agents is a red herring. The real objection haters have is not the number of free agents they sign - it's how much the Yankees spend for free agents and to retain other quality players. When A-Roid was last available, he was practically a free agent - no one even bothered to bid/trade for him because he was too expensive. The salaries paid to the Yankee's starting eight, their three best starting pitchers and Mariano comes to $177MM or so. The Phillies comparable number is less than half - $82MM (which includes an amazing $15MM for that bum Ryan Howard and $13MM for Lidge!)

The Yankees (and Mets, for that matter) also have a huge cushion - they can afford to make mistakes like Kevin Brown and Carl Pavano. That would crush a small market team.

But the Yankees just ain't a home grown team - only 3 of their top 9 salaried players (those over $10MM) are home grown. Of the remaining six, five are free agents and one is A-Rod.

Nice try, though.
